Change of Use, Former Benihana Parking Lot Metro and its contractor, STS, are seeking a change of use at the former Benihana parking lot north of the current La Cienega staging yard. The change of use would allow the contractor to park personal vehicles in the lot 24 hours a day. Access will be limited to Purple Line Extension personnel and no heavy construction vehicles will be permitted to park in the lot. Sound blankets will be placed on the eastern side of the lot to reduce noise and no construction materials will be staged in the lot. This change of use is expected to go to City Council for a decision on December 17, 2019. Please send comments to purpleline@beverlyhills.org, which will be provided to councilmembers in advance of the meeting. |
Weekly Update 12/6/19
Wilshire/Rodeo Station
Piling installation on Wilshire paused for the holidays.
Piling operations have been paused through New Year’s Day on Wilshire between Crescent and Beverly. K-rail barriers have been removed and Wilshire has been restored to three lanes in each direction. Piling will begin again in early January and K-rail barriers will be put back in place 24 hours a day through the completion of this work, which is expected to be July of next year. Two lanes of traffic will remain open in each direction on Wilshire during piling installation. For more details, please see Metro’s latest construction notice.
Installation of traffic signal at Clifton and Crescent intersection underway.
A four-way traffic signal has been installed at Clifton and Crescent to mitigate anticipated traffic impacts caused by the N. Cañon cul-de-sac. The traffic signal has been energized using temporary poles. In early January, the contractor will reconstruct the sidewalks and ADA ramps and install permanent poles at the intersection. This work will require some impacts to traffic lanes, sidewalks, crosswalks, and parking meters at the intersection.
Cañon converted to a cul-de-sac at Wilshire.
N. Cañon is no longer accessible from Wilshire. A 20-foot soundwall has been installed at the intersection of N. Cañon and Wilshire in an effort to mitigate traffic and noise for a minimum of two years during major construction. N. Cañon has been reconfigured into a cul-de-sac.
Wilshire/La Cienega Station
Closures anticipated near Wilshire.
The following closures* are scheduled to take place during the upcoming week:
Please use alternative routes and continue to respect construction barriers and detours for your safety.
Concrete and material delivery underway.
For concrete placement and material deliveries such as rebar, Wilshire will be intermittently reduced to two lanes in each direction from 3 am to 4 pm, and one lane in each direction from 9 pm to 7 am. Parking and turn restrictions will also be required.
Contractor to request to work on early 2020 holidays.
Metro and its contractor, STS, are expected to request a waiver to work on Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January 20) and Presidents’ Day (February 17). The request is anticipated to be presented to Beverly Hills City Council for a decision on December 17. Comments submitted to purpleline@beverlyhills.org will be included in the packet of material provided to councilmembers.
